Del Mar is a fabulous beach town north of La Jolla and south of Solana Beach. Surrounded by some of the most gorgeous beaches and golf courses, Del Mar is definitely multi faceted. From the charming architecture in Ole Del Mar to chic modern houses and shopping centers. People near and far come to attend one of the many events Del Mar hosts. A few being Del Mar Horse Races, San Diego County Fair, and Kaaboo Music Festival.
Del Mar was incorporated in 1959 and became popular among movie stars who needed a break from the commotion in Hollywood. The stars would come to appreciate the beaches and ambiance. As one of the smallest beach communities in San Diego, only 2.1 square miles, there is limited land to build making the real estate affluent and sell for a premium. You can find Spanish, modern, and custom style homes in Del Mar.
What we love about Del Mar
For beachfront dining I love Jakes and Poseidon which are right on the sand, making it the perfect spot for a sunset cocktail.
The Del Mar race track on Opening Day is by far one of the most lively days in San Diego; bringing people from far and wide to fashionably appreciate this sport and socialize.
My favorite restaurant would have to be the MARKET, tucked away on Via De La Valle; the gourmet food and dark moody ambience are top notch!
